The Battle for Betty’s Bay Report on Hack no 656

The rain won this battle and forced a retreat of the troops. We will re-engage in January!

We will (weather permitting) move our annual bring and braai as well. Beer will be provided, but if you want anything else please bring it with you. If the wind is too high, bring a picnic otherwise there will be a fire.

Sadly, I record the death of Malcolm Pollard, third convenor of the hack from 1982 to 1984. Malcolm started hacking in the 1970s soon after he and Wendy bought their holiday house in Betty’s Bay. Malcolm became convenor after the death of Rod Smitheman and during his convenorship he named January the ‘Bring a friend’ hack. Malcolm resigned when he was transferred to George; but the Christmas season, spent in Betty’s Bay, brought him back to the hack. They hacked as a family and now the next generation – his grandsons Sean & Michael Bensch hack with their father Martin. To Wendy, Leigh and Trevor and family we extend our sympathy.

Let us revive the “Bring a friend” idea this January in his honour. So please see if you can convince a friend (or two) to join you.

Next Hack: Sunday 7 January 2018 at 8h30 on Agapanthus Road off Porter Drive.
