PRINGLE BAY HACK REPORT N0 130

Today, the 26th of November, was the last hack of 2017 for the Pringle Bay Hack Group. We thought we would make it a quick and easy hack and tackle the verges of Hangklip Road, so we would not be too exhausted for the braai later! Little did we know, the exotics had their own idea. It was tough to eradicate the small stuff, especially the ever present Australian Myrtle! But we did it and cleared an area, which has always been avoided! Thank you guys! That was a good achievement and at least that part of Hangklip Road is now secure.

Today’s attendance reached a new record with the following 32 members performing the hack; Louw and Karen Toerien, Mike Begley, Andree Henning, Neil and Penny Berens, Tom Dreyer, Marita Grobbelaar, Charles Hector, Jan Joubert, Dave Muirhead, Frik Potgieter, Rienie Schenk, Carol Wilson, Hillary and Anthony Harris, Mike and Ilse Meyer, Pieter Snyman, Jenny Parsons, Ulli Niemann, Willem Stiglingh, Chris Cadman, Natalie van Wulven, Jeannie Harning, Robyn Lawson, Richard Smeda, Mike Robinson together with Chris Geldenhuys. Today the Pringle Bay Hack was joined by Richard Gould from Betty’s Bay, thanks Richard. Selwyn Botha, an old hacker of the Wednesday Hack joined us and also brought his friend Philip Conway along. Great effort guys and we wish to see you again at the next hack. Also, Selwyn the tart was divine and enjoyed by all!

A sincere thanks to all of the hackers for your wonderful contribution to the hack through the year of 2017! In our excitement over our achievements, John Whitehead, who left us this year, will be remembered for the wonderful contribution that he made to the Pringle Bay Hack.

A special word of thanks for the contribution and support provided by the members of the Bettys Bay Hack to the Pringle Bay Hack. Their efforts and encouragement are, as always, greatly appreciated.

Thanks to Lena and Dave Muirhead for the delicious mid-morning refreshments, not only today, but also for your contribution throughout the year!! Again a special word of thanks go to Peter and Joyce of the Mini Mark for their generous donation of the tea and sandwiches for the Hack Group on a monthly basis for almost 3 years. You can be assured that all the hackers appreciate your contribution. This was specifically expressed at the year end braai by all the hackers. The shop has been sold and the new owner, Adriaan, has already indicated that he will continue with the wonderful donation. Peter and Joyce we wish you much success in your future endeavours!

Thank you to everybody who contributed to the year end braai! It was a huge success with Keith and Di Foster acting as our welcoming hosts at their wonderful home overlooking the sea. A further thank you to all those who contributed to the braai.  There was plenty to go around, such as salad, chips, snacks, Samosas, wine and beer. I think everybody had enough and spirits were high!

The next monthly hack will be on Sunday 28 January 2018. As usual we will meet on the pavement opposite Drosters Centre, in Central Avenue, Pringle Bay, at 08:30 where after we will proceed to the hack site. The hack stops at 11:30. Everyone who would like to help rid Pringle Bay of alien vegetation will be welcome.  Hacking tools are provided. Contact Chris at (028) 273 8588, or just turn up at the meeting point.

Chris Geldenhuys, Convenor.
