Behind the scenes at Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens

Tim had a good meeting with Bernie Carolus from Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens on 17 April 2018. He visited the Educational Centre which is now a pleasantly large and airy building. The nursery is now also well stocked, grey water systems are being installed and the plants on sale will be organised into different vegetation types. The greenhouses and nursery are separate from plant sales area. Vacancy: Newsletter Coordinator Volunteer needed

The Kogelberg branch is looking for a volunteer to co-ordinate their monthly newsletter that contains regular features as well as special events, articles of interest and branch updates.  The person would require the following: Ability to liaise with multiple contact points to meet deadlines. Good command of the English language for editing purposes. The ability to use Outlook, Calendar, Word, Mailchimp, Adobe, mail merge, and an understanding of word press is advantageous. Sales of Your Place in the Kogelberg have been steady with outlets in the Kogelberg villages, Kirstenbosch, Somerset West, Grabouw and Hermanus. Merrilee Berrisford Qhayita Secondary School pupils admire the gift books Last year a BotSoc member living in our area, someone who chooses to be anonymous, offered to buy the six books in the Indigenous Knowledge Series by Cambridge University Press for the Kogelberg branch to give to a deserving school. Both Curator, Berenice Carolus, and Eunice Jurgens, Senior Environmental Education Officer at Harold Porter NBG, were unanimous that Qhayiya Secondary School in Zwelihle, Hermanus, was the obvious choice.
