PRINGLE BAY HACK N0 109

Chris Geldenhuys, Convenor The next monthly hack will be on Sunday 31st January 2016. As usual we will meet on the pavement opposite Drosters Centre, in Central Avenue, Pringle Bay, at 08:30 whereafter we will proceed to the hack site. The hack finishes at 11:30. Everyone who would like to help rid Pringle Bay of alien vegetation will be welcome.  Hacking tools are provided. Contact Chris on 028 273 8588, or just turn up at the meeting point.

THE BATTLE OF BETTY’S BAY – REPORT ON ROUNDS 630 and 631

Ed Silberbauer, Convenor Round 630 Two colossal gum trees were felled and dismembered by the heavy brigade, six chain saws shattering the quiet and otherwise peaceful morning. Three largish and long dead Acacia elata too were downed. Under the bark of these dead trees were an interesting collection of insects, including those large ants which tend to bite the unwary. The light brigade eliminated all the seedlings in that area - Acacia elata, Pittosporum undulatum and gums - there were many.  Pittosporum is another fast growing problem in Betty's Bay.
