WEDNESDAY HACK

John

JOHN WHITEHEAD: Remembered

– Ed Silberbauer

John was one of those men who are  impossible to define for he was all things to those who knew him. In the Hangklip area we knew him only in retirement but here he made a tremendous impact on all of us. He shared his extensive knowledge during the sometimes extensive but always entertaining hack aftermaths. His ability to sort the wheat from the chaff impressed us all.

John alone was responsible in getting the Pringle Bay hack group going again after a gap of some years a really daunting task. His determination and hard work, coupled with his ability to enthuse others, resulted in the formation of a strong and willing group of volunteer hackers. He was also a regular hacker at Betty’s Bay’s monthly hacks and the weekly Wednesday hacks of the two groups.

Usinghis legal knowledge, he and the late Nancy van Schaik updated the constitution of the Kogelberg Branch. A founder member of the East London N.S.R.I, a hiker and a family man, who would never miss a grandson’s rugby match, he is a loss to all. An exceptional man.

We salute John for the endurance and courage to re-establish the Pringle Bay Hack and all other contributions to the Pringle Bay Community as the Chairperson of the PBRA, Legal Advisor and many more. But besides his professional capacity, John will be remembered for his dedication to detail in whatever he took on and his ever friendly and approachable character. Kate, you and the rest of the family can be proud of what John stood for: the Group wish you all the support and strength to deal with his departure.
