Groenfontein: A Treat of Retreat!

- Rea Borcherd It has become a tradition in this Branch to make group expeditions to explore the flora of regions beyond our own.  In previous years successful group outings were made to  the Gifberg,  Agulhas and Haarwegskloof.   This year was the turn of the Klein Karoo, specifically the region around Calitzdorp. TALKS PLANNED FOR 2017 Saturday 19th August. Peter Slingsby, once the publisher of our newsletter and author of several books, will speak on Ants, the subject of his most recent publication. In the Nivenia Hall, HPBG at 18:00 Saturday 16th September. David Davidson will again fascinate us with his account of the 2017 Chelsea Flower Show where the S.A. Stand again won gold and also the Royal Horticultural Society's award. Last spring I was there, mostly on hands and knees looking at flowers, I felt it would be a good place for a Kogelberg Branch stay. There are two possible plant people who could guide us. As John Rourke says, it is not a really botanically rich spot but it is Klein Karoo, different. There are special places on the way where we may meet to botanise.
