Betty’s Bay Hack Report No 668-671

THE BATTLE OF BETTY’S BAY: REPORT ON HACK NO 668 Many Rooikrans trees were taken out by the troops on a near perfect day. The Agnew family who own the property on the corner of Goucom Road and Beach Boulevard gave permission for the huge forest around their house to be taken out. This has been an eyesore for many years as well as a generator of seed, so it was glad tidings indeed. The tea was made by Merran Silberbauer, and the sandwiches by Di Knott. Thank you, ladies! Penguin Place again donated the…

BETTY’S BAY HACK REPORT NO 654

- Frik Potgieter,Convenor On a somewhat windy morning, Rooikrans were tackled on the public open space to the east of Agapanthus road. A large number were eradicated, but there are many more waiting for next month. The area around Business Circle was also cleared by a team of hackers. During this clearing exercise, Natalie was rather foully abused by one of the neighbouring residents. She did not like the noise of a chain saw on a Sunday morning! This has happened before, but from the report it seems like one of the worst. Luckily Natalie-…

Firstly, a big thank you to Ed Silberbauer who organised Hack number 650. It is much appreciated! Sterling work was done by the troops today and a huge number of Rooikrans bit the dust. The terrain is difficult, so not only is it necessary to cut paths in, but stems need to be dug out where the sand has built up. So thank you to all for the effort.  We were joined by Rosemary Fowkes, Jeannie Harning, David Bossenger, Tom Dreyer, Betsey  Joubert with grandsons Luke and Tim, Ulli Niemann, Carole Roberts, Jim  Russell. Lewis…

The Wednesday Hack

Over the last month the group again hacked Rooikrans on the verges of Porter Drive. A new site on the mountain side of the R44 as it leaves Betty’s Bay was started. It is a critical site as the witches brew of aliens are not only threatening the mountain slopes but has endangered the water supply of the properties on the sea side of the R44, thrilling stuff!
