Ten ways to support Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens

One of the core purposes of the Botanical Society of South Africa is to support the work of the National Botanical Gardens. A recent meeting between Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens Curator Berenice Carolus and Tim Attwell, Chairman of the Kogelberg Branch, came up with ten ways for the Kogelberg branch of the Botanical Society to partner with the Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens.   Promoting the Garden Botsoc Kogelberg can help HPNBG by promoting the Garden and encouraging visits among the local public and keeping Botsoc members informed of developments in HPNBG. TALKS PLANNED FOR 2018: 20 JANUARY 2018: Rod & Rachel Saunders will be speaking on Gladioli. In South Africa there are about 165 species of Gladiolus.  A number of them grow in the summer rainfall regions of South Africa, and a number of them flower in mid summer.  Rod and Rachel have visited the Drakensberg 4 years running to try to find several species that flower in December in the mountains. Saturday 15 July 2017: Botanical Ramble above Fairy Glen No, we won’t be scaling the heights of the plateau and the shale band on the slopes of the Three Sisters peaks. We’ll stay a little lower, check out the waterfalls and streams and the fynbos that is coming into late winter bloom. Beautiful views, discoveries and a good place to stop for refreshments.
