Betty’s Bay Hack Report No 662&663

The Battle for Betty’s Bay: Report on Hack 662 (June 2018) The troops tackled Acacia Elata and Eucalyptus in Disa Jeugkamp and on the slopes of Voorberg. Boring, but absolutely essential in order to save the mountain for future generations. So a big thank you to all! The tea was made by Merran Silberbauer, and the sandwiches by Christine Dreyer. Thank you ladies! Penguin Place again donated the bread. WEDNESDAY HACK

JOHN WHITEHEAD: Remembered - Ed Silberbauer John was one of those men who are  impossible to define for he was all things to those who knew him. In the Hangklip area we knew him only in retirement but here he made a tremendous impact on all of us. He shared his extensive knowledge during the sometimes extensive but always entertaining hack aftermaths. His ability to sort the wheat from the chaff impressed us all. BETTY’S BAY HACK REPORT NO 651

Firstly, a big thank you to Ed Silberbauer who organised Hack number 650. It is much appreciated! Sterling work was done by the troops today and a huge number of Rooikrans bit the dust. So thank you to all for the effort.  We were joined by Rosemary Fowkes, Jeannie Harning, David Bossenger, Tom Dreyer, Betsey  Joubert with grandsons Luke and Tim, Ulli Niemann, Carole Roberts, Jim  Russell. Lewis…

Betty’s Bay Hack No. 650

However all was sorted out and in perfect weather a lot of rooikrans was eliminated over a big area which, for a change, was not too difficult to access. Next hack - same place BUT this time…

THE BATTLE OF BETTY’S BAY: REPORT ON HACK NO 640

- Ed Silberbauer, standing in for Frik Potgieter, the Convenor In unsettled, cold and uncertain weather it was certainly a joy to find a settled, warm and enthusiastic gathering for an early Spring hack. The scene of action, along Porter Drive between Vlei and Agapanthus roads – an area notorious for terrible infestations of invasives over many years – was given a thorough going over. Dead carcases of these awful trees were left lying to the left and right of the highway – a sight for sore eyes! The enthusiastic young hackers, Xavier and Zara…
