SOUTH AFRICA AT THE 2017 RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW

  This month the branch has invited David Davidson to once again share his experiences at the 2017 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.  His talk will lead us through the behind the scenes action of the 2017 show, including the excitement around Kirstenbosch’s double win! JULY TALK REPORT

- Andrea Benn Saturday 16 July, our AGM: David Davidson, designer of the SA stand at the Chelsea Flower Show, spoke about his experience at the Show. The annual Chelsea Flower Show, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), was held in May this year in the lovely grounds of the Chelsea Pensioners Hospital. These attractive brick buildings were designed by Christopher Wren and this year were enhanced by many thousands of individually knitted red poppies displayed on both sides of the road leading to the Hospital. KOGELBERG AT THE CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW 2016

Merrilee Berrisford Last month we reported that the wonderful landscapes, plants and animals of the Kogelberg were displayed to tens of thousands of visitors at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. The twin themes of the South African stand were the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve and Harold Porter NBG. Very good news is that our SA stand won a gold award! We were also featured in a list on the Royal Horticultural Society website, under ‘Pavilion awards’, describing South Africa as a ‘wild garden’ and a gold winner.
