SNAKE SHOW AT PIKKEWYNTJIES PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOL, BETTY’S BAY

-Rea Borcherds The Committee of the Betty’s Bay Botsoc Branch supports Pikkewyntjies Pre-Primary school at Mooiuitsig in a variety of ways, whether by material or financial support, or by environmental outings and suitable educational experiences for the children. The latest event was a hugely successful Snake Show on Tuesday 21 February, given by well-known local snake expert, Francois van Zyl of Pringle Bay. The show was timed for 6 pm so that parents and members of the community could also attend, and it had clearly attracted an enthusiastic crowd because the school hall filled rapidly.…

WALKS PLANNED FOR 2016

• Botsoc Walk 15 October 2016 “What lies beneath”. The rocks and soil beneath fynbos makes a difference; the vegetation we see is the product of the substrate we don’t see. Renowned botanist and botanical historian Dr John Rourke shows us fynbos vegetation growing only on Western Coastal Shale Band and points out how it is different from Sand and Sandstone fynbos. We hitch a ride in high clearance vehicles up to stunning views from Kasteelkop Nek high above Kleinmond. We amble down (not up!) a gravel road while Dr Rourke points out special features…

BOTSOC COMMITTEE 2016 – 2017

- Merrilee Berrisford Kogelberg Branch has always been well served by its committee members. Each year there is some continuity and some new faces. The constitution of the branch specifies that eight members are elected and additional people may be co-opted. At this year’s AGM the eight people willing to stand were elected en bloc; to fill the positions of newsletter editor and treasurer, two more have been co-opted.
