Future Walks

20 October 2018 Meet at HPNBG at 09h00 and we will walk from there. Enquiries: Tim Attwell, cell phone 082 343 2501  This one is an easy ramble with lots to see. We will explore ‘The Commonage’, the large public open space between Bass Lake (aka Malkopsvlei) and Waterfall Road in Betty’s Bay. Burnt three years ago, the area includes Cape Lowland Freshwater Wetland, Hangklip Sand Fynbos and Overberg Dune Strandveld. Let’s see how it has recovered. The paths are good and we can take our time.

Betty’s Bay Hack Report No 658

What a glorious way to celebrate 55 years of hacking in Betty’s Bay! The day was perfect; there were four new hackers, a strong Pringle Bay contingent and lots of the usual hackers. Thank you all! It was a difficult hack as the Fynbos is thick and most of the Rooikrans could only be reached by cutting one’s way in and then crawling in to cut the offenders. The tea was made by Merran Silberbauer, and the sandwiches by Jane Fearnhead. Thank you ladies. Penguin Place donated the bread- thank you! The troops were: John…

Chairman’s News

Karen's Verge It was the height of Aristea season in Betty's Bay. Karen Fry phoned to say the verge across the road - Fourstreams - was stunning. There they were a stand of stately brilliant blue heads of Aristea  capitata (please put in italics). Alas the adjacent verges showed just short, cropped plants. Karen had especially asked the municipal workers to leave her verge; the result was this splendid display. We can all take steps to beautify our own patch of verge bearing in mind that in some cases visibility for traffic is important. Old…

THE WEDNESDAY HACK

More work was done at the R44 site just outside Betty’s Bay. It is now very clear that the group is winning that one. Several people commented on the progress, so it is obvious to all that we are making an impact on the environment. Work also commenced on the pine infestation on the slopes between Pringle Bay and Rooiels. Please join our Facebook group, ‘Hackers of the Kogelberg’ to view more photos and keep up with Hack events

THE BATTLE OF BETTY’S BAY: HACK REPORT 646

-Frik Potgieter, Convenor We did not bring as many friends as on the last hack, but the attendance was again excellent. Thank you to all who attended. The weather was kind and the troops motivated, so a huge number of the enemy succumbed to its wounds. There are only some isolated spots of Rooikrans left on Porter Drive, but these will be left for a later date. Jane Fearnhead provided the sandwiches and Merran Silberbauer the tea. Thank you ladies!  Also thank you to Penguin Place for donating the bread for aforesaid sandwiches. Those attending…
