JULY WALK REPORT

- Tim Attwell Saturday 16 July It often happens. Cold rain and wind in the lead-up to the monthly walk makes the prospect daunting, then, as we set off, the clouds part, the sun comes out and we feel smug that we braved the weather and won. This time was no exception. The route took us from the lagoon parking area at Kleinmond beach to the Frank Robb walkway along the coast, to the Kleinmond harbour. Calling it a ‘walkway’ doesn’t really do justice to this delightful trail. It winds its way just above the…

JUNE WALK REPORT: SATURDAY 18 JUNE 2016

Say ‘Dune Strandveld’, or more precisely ‘Overberg Dune Strandveld’, and you get a mental picture of huge mounds of white sand. Well, huge mounds of white sand are seldom far from it, but in reality Overberg Dune Strandveld is dense thicket, populated by low growing trees, among them the well named, species rich ‘taaibos’ (‘tough bush’) of the genus Searsia, dune olive Olea exasperata, sea guarrie Euclea racemosa, Cape coast cabbage trees Cussonia thyrsiflora and a host of others. APRIL WALK

Botsoc Kogelberg Walk Report: 16 April 2016 Tim Attwell It was an impromptu affair. Not the date, but the destination. Some feared it may be ill advised to tackle the stiff climb to the plateau above Fairy Glen in the Kleinmond Nature Reserve, considering that we had not issued dark warnings to all comers about the challenge it would represent. To their credit, none of the thirteen Botsoc members were fazed by the prospect, viewed from the car park, of toiling 200 vertical metres up the zig-zag Klipspringer path to the sun brightened expanse of…
