Betty’s Bay Hack Report No 666

The battle for Betty's Bay: Report on Hack no 666 On a windy, early summer’s day, the dreaded Roooikrans along the verges of Disa Circle were tackled. This area is a good example of how this enemy proliferates if left to its own devices! But also how, with effort, the fynbos can be restored to all its glory. Well done everybody! The tea was made by Merran Silberbauer, and the sandwiches by Christine Dreyer. Thank you ladies! Penguin Place again donated the bread, so thank you to them! The troops were: Tom Dreyer, Jeannie Harning,…

This is becoming a really serious threat to the invaders! The battle for Betty's Bay: Report on Hack no 665 Only a few brave souls ignored the threatening weather to fight the enemy, but their enthusiasm made up for the numbers! Pringle Bay Hack Report No 137

Thank you to all the hackers who attended today’s hack, what a great turnout! The plot next to the entrance of Pringle Bay has been a headache for a long time. It has been a challenge to trace the owner/consortium responsible for the plot, but we’ve finally managed to do so and today, 29 July 2018, we made a start on the hacking on smallholding 559/61. This plot is seriously invested with Eucalyptus, Spider Gum, Rooikrantz, Port Jackson, Australian Myrtle and Pine trees. While today was only a start, and we will be busy there…

Pringle Bay Hack Report No 136

It was at the back of most hackers’ minds that on 24 June 2018 we would not be hacking due to possible rainy weather. We were waiting for the crucial sms cancelling the hack, which never came! Despite the weather and a few raindrops, 28 members of the Pringle Bay Hack Group convened at Drostergat. We first tackled the Rooikrantz and Brazilian Pepper Trees on Plots 370 - 3, behind the Country Deli, and thereafter the Rooikrantz, Port Jackson and Australian Myrtle on the verges of the intersection of James and Oliver roads. Thank you,…

Pringle Bay Hack Report No 134

On Earth Day, 22 April 2018, the Pringle Bay Hack Group convened at Drostersgat to celebrate our blessings in being able to do our bit for our beloved Earth. We tackled the monstrous Rooikrantz (it has been an eyesore for a number of years) at the Hangklip, Buffels and Stream roads intersection. That kept us very productive until teatime, whereafter we moved to the High-level and Flat roads intersection to tackle the ever-present Australian Myrtle. There was a lot of dragging to be done, because the branches were required for the reinforcement of the Pringle…

A good crowd attended the hack on an absolutely gorgeous day and, like last month, lots of Rooikrans and Spider gums bit the dust. Thank you all. Just a reminder to all, please cut low and poison every one of the enemy. Jim Russel and Bernard and Natalie van Wulven spent most of their day killing coppiced stumps. The tea was made by Merran Silberbauer, and the sandwiches by Christine Dreyer. Thank you ladies! The troops were: John and Andrea Benn, David Bossenger, Tom Dreyer, Jan and Betsey Joubert, Maarten and Hilary Mauve, Ulli Niemann,…

Pringle Bay Hack Report No 133

The change of season created havoc today! The convenor made the mistake, in the previous report, that today’s hack would start at 08h00. After personally communicating with all hackers, it was confirmed we are now on Autumn/Winter time and all hacks going forward will start at 08h30. Until we see Summertime again! On 25 March 2018 the Pringle Bay Hack Group convened at Drostergat. Today we had a follow-up hack at Pringle Bay’s Main Beach Parking lot. We removed small seedlings, medium sized – and big monster Rooikrantz Trees. There was a lot of dragging…
