Pringle Bay Hack Report No 132

On 25 February 2018 the Pringle Bay Hack Group convened at Drostergat at 08h00. At January’s hack it was agreed that the Pringle Hack would assist with the pine hack across the Buffels River. So, we moved there in our numbers today! The pines were gone, but the Spider Gum trees, which survived the fire by depositing millions of seedlings and coppicing on the mountain slopes of Small Hangklip Mountain, were the challenge! It required the hack to go down on their knees and pull every seedling out one by one! Surely it required a lot of patience!

Thanks guys you did a great job and a big chunk of the regrowth were hacked. We will do it continuously again with the Wednesday-hack and perhaps again with another Pringle Bay monthly hack. See if you can find the hackers through the Gums on the photos below! We want to thank Mareli Dreyer, owner of the plot, for allowing the hack to tackle the invasion on this plot and for the donation. You are setting a wonderful example and we wish that the other plot owners would follow suit!!

Today’s attendance was another record with the following 31 members performing the hack; Louw and Karen Toerien, Mike Begley, Neil and Penny Berens, Tom Dreyer, Marita Grobbelaar, Charles Hector, Andy James, Jan and Betsy Joubert, Frik Potgieter, Edward Silberbauer, Sue Fielden, Justin Elves, Carol Wilson, Hillary and Anthony Harris, Mike and Ilse Meyer, Rischard Gould, Willem Stiglingh, Chris Cadman, Robyn Lawson, Mike Robinson together with Chris Geldenhuys. Mike Begley, in his wisdom invited and we welcomed Ramon Singh and Nils Rottcher to join us today.

Karen invited Mike and Sue Schalit to join and to our surprise the “Hackers of the Kogelberg FB page” inspired Gregg Mossner to join us.

For the Pringle Bay Hack this influx of new members is a tremendous boost and you must know that you are welcome and precious to the group and we hope that you will be inspired hackers!
