PRINGLE BAY HACK REPORT N0 128

– Chris Geldenhuys, Convenor.

In the beginning of September the Overstrand Municipality tried to clear the verges in Hangklip Road in Pringle Bay and in the process almost destroyed all possible Fynbos in that area. We finally managed to stop them and indicated that we, the Pringle Bay Hack Group will clear the area of alien vegetation. Today, 24 September, Heritage Day 2017, we invested in our heritage and clear several areas along Hangklip, Rita and Elizabeth Roads. We tackled mostly Australian Myrtle, a few Rooikrantz and Port Jacksons. We have now fulfilled our commitment! Thank you guys! That was a good achievement! See the attached photos for the before and after the hack.

The following 21 members performed the hack; Louw and Karen Toerien, Freddie, Marita Grobbelaar, Charles Hector, Dave Muirhead, Frik Potgieter, Rienie Schenk, Robyn Lawson, Richard Smeda, Hillary Harris, Mike Meyer, Pieter Snyman, Willem Stiglingh, Bernard van Wulven, Jeannie Harning together with Chris Geldenhuys. Today the Pringle Bay Hack was joined by Keith and Di Foster as future hackers. Caroline Schenk also visited us for the first time and we wish to see you again at the next hack. We received also a visit by Alrich, with a good spurt of energy from Gauteng!!! Thank you all for everybody’s valuable contribution today! Despite this good turnout, a number of members are injured or sick and you can be assured that you are in our minds, we wish you all a speedy recovery!

A special word of thanks for the contribution and support provided by the members of the Bettys Bay Hack to the Pringle Bay Hack. Their efforts and encouragement are, as always, greatly appreciated.

Thanks to Dave and Helena Muirhead for the kind making of delicious mid-morning refreshments!! Again a special word of thanks go to Peter and Joyce of the Mini Mark for the generous donation of the tea and sandwiches for the Hack Group, it was as always greatly appreciated by all. It will be great if all hackers can express their appreciation, whenever you meet them in the Mini Mark. Today was Heritage Day and we were honoured to enjoy beer that we received from the Hangklip Bottle Store as a donation! Thank you Elmarie and Karina for your generous donation.

The next monthly hack will be on Sunday 29 October 2017. As usual we will meet on the pavement opposite Drosters Centre, in Central Avenue, Pringle Bay, at 08:30 where after we will proceed to the hack site. The hack stops at 11:30. Everyone who would like to help rid Pringle Bay of alien vegetation will be welcome.  Hacking tools are provided. Contact Chris at (028) 273 8588, or just turn up at the meeting point.
