PRINGLE BAY HACK REPORT N0 127

It felt like a hurricane wind was blowing, on 27 August, as we tackled the invasive vegetation on the verges of the gravel portion of Hangklip Road in a south-easterly direction.  At stages the wind reached speeds of 59 km/hour (During tea-time!). But nothing could stop these hackers today! Due to the sensitivity of the conservancy on the eastern side of the road, it was important to clear the verges, where the invaders were busy creeping up from the west. After 1,100m the hack group had cleared the whole area and it already look much better. See attached photo. Thank you guys for the good achievement!

PB Hack

After the hack, clear and open verges, without any exotics!!!

The following 16 members (smallest group since 2014) performed the hack; Andree Henning, Sue Folb, Marita Grobbelaar, Charles Hector, Jan Joubert, Dave Muirhead, Frik Potgieter, Rienie Schenk, Robert Schaefer, Chris Cadman, Robyn Lawson, Andy James, Richard Smeda together with Chris Geldenhuys. Today the Pringle Bay Hack was joined by Sandy Middleton after a period abroad. Jenny Cadman also visited us for the first time and we wish to see her again at the next hack. We received a visit by Sunra Mostert, and Corine Visser. They are in grade 10-4, at the Jan Kriel School in Kuilsrivier. They had to do a community project for their life orientation subject and chose to join a hack to clear alien vegetation which is a menace, and is threatening the local endemic species of vegetation. Good show! See the attached photo.

Thank you for everybody’s valuable contribution today! We sincerely hope to see the hack group back in full force next time, as  it is spring!!

PB Hack2

Sunra Mostert, and Corine Visser with Robert and Dave

A special word of thanks for the contribution and support provided by the members of the Bettys Bay Hack to the Pringle Bay Hack. Their efforts and encouragement are, as always, greatly appreciated. We are glad that Ed and Merren Silberbauer are better and are doing well.

Thanks to Dave and Helena Muirhead for the delicious mid-morning refreshments!! Again a special word of thanks go to Peter and Joyce of the Mini Mark for the generous donation of tea and sandwiches for the Hack Group. It was as always greatly appreciated by all. It will be appreciated if all hackers can express their thanks, whenever they see them at the Mini Mark.

The next monthly hack will be on Sunday 24 September 2017. As usual we will meet on the pavement opposite Drosters Centre, in Central Avenue, Pringle Bay, at 08:30 where after we will proceed to the hack site. The hack stops at 11:30. Everyone who would like to help rid Pringle Bay of alien vegetation will be welcome.  Hacking tools are provided.

Contact Chris at (028) 273 8588, or just turn up at the meeting point.
