PRINGLE BAY HACK REPORT N0 121

-Chris Geldenhuys

With the memory of the recent fire disaster fresh in our minds, the Pringle Bay Hack Group gathered at Droster’s Gat on 26 February. Fully motivated and inspired, they moved to the entrance of Pringle Bay where they cleared the verges along Buffels Road up to the Ursula Road intersection. The infestation was mainly Flowering Gum and Rooikrans, which are a serious threat to the Fynbos. The hackers were faced with some senior Flowering Gum trees (see the before and after photos). This was not a mere Sunday hack, it was heavy work, more like a tree-felling exercise. Jolly good show guys!

The following 26 members performed the hack: John Whitehead, Edward Silberbauer, Sue Fielden, Frik Potgieter, Louw Toerien, Mike Meyer, Charles Hector, Mike Begley, Sue Folb, Neil and Penny Berens, Tom Dreyer, Marita Grobbelaar, Andy James, Robert and Philip Schaefer, Anthony and Hillary Harris, Willem and Reggie Stigling, Jeannie Harning and Karen Masara, together with Chris Geldenhuys. In spite of  the fact that they are here only on a two-week visit from Sweden, Daniel and Natalie Swartling together with their son found the inspiration and time to join the hack. Thank you guys! The hack was also joined for the first time by Natalie van Wulven from Betty’s Bay. Thank you for your valuable contribution!

A special word of thanks for the contribution and support provided by the members of the Betty’s Bay Hack to the Pringle Bay Hack. Their efforts and encouragement are, as always, greatly appreciated.

Lena left for Gauteng to attend to sickness in the family but Dave and Karen Toerien managed to provide the ever necessary mid-morning refreshments. Thanks Dave and Karen for all the arrangements! Lena, we hope and pray for support and recovery for you and the family. Again a special word of thanks to Peter and Joyce of the Mini Mark for the generous donation of the tea and sandwiches, as always greatly appreciated by all. It will be appreciated if all hackers can express their appreciation, whenever you meet them in the Mini Mark.

The next monthly hack will be on Sunday 26 March 2017. As usual we will meet on the pavement opposite Droster’s Centre, in Central Avenue, Pringle Bay, at 08:00 whereafter we will proceed to the hack site. The hack ends at 11:00. Everyone who would like to help rid Pringle Bay of alien vegetation is welcome. Hacking tools are provided. Contact Chris at (028) 273 8588, or just turn up at the meeting point.
